Ukrainian Vechornytsi

Ukrainian Vechornytsi in Pilsen

A warm, atmospheric and truly Ukrainian event for the whole family – adults and children. Musical program, Didukh-making workshop, Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar cuisine.

Program:

  • 3:00 PM–8:00 PM – Ukrainian Vechornytsi (accompanying program)
  • 3:00 PM–4:00 PM – Photo corner with wheat and dried flowers 🌾
  • 4:00 PM – Didukh-making workshop (seats taken, but you can watch the process)
  • Performing: Olga Yurchuk, Beata Kosina, Tetiana Svitlichna, Angelika Protsenko, Anna Bodnar, Ensemble "Ruta"
  • Ukrainian and world songs, Czech and Ukrainian carols with bandura
  • Tasting of Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar cuisine

February 2026 Literary-Musical Evening

Evening of Lesya Ukrainka

A literary-musical evening dedicated to Ukrainian poet and playwright Lesya Ukrainka – a symbol of the fight for freedom and women's strength in literature.

Program:

  • Recitation of poems by Lesya Ukrainka and contemporary Ukrainian authors
  • Musical accompaniment (piano, bandura, singing)
  • Discussion with poets and writers from the Ukrainian community in the Czech Republic
  • Literary quiz

Location: Library, café or cultural hall

Expected attendance: 30–80 people

Lunch with Taras – 2nd Edition
March 2026 2nd Edition

Lunch with Taras

A community gathering to commemorate the birthday of Taras Shevchenko – the greatest Ukrainian poet, whose significance can be compared to K.H. Mácha in Czech literature.

Program:

  • Reading of selected poems by Taras Shevchenko
  • Musical performances (Ukrainian folk and original songs)
  • Poetry and prose by contemporary Ukrainian writers living in the Czech Republic
  • Shared lunch and informal gathering of Czechs and Ukrainians

Location: Community center, library or café

Expected attendance: 30–80 people

Ukrainian Easter
March–April 2026 Workshop

Ukrainian Easter

A cultural and community event dedicated to Ukrainian Easter traditions.

Program:

  • Art workshop (decorating Easter eggs)
  • Recitation of Easter poetry
  • Songs and traditional melodies
  • Presentation of customs, shared gathering at the festive table

Location: Library, café or cultural hall

Slavic Springs Festival – 2nd Edition
May–June 2026 2nd Edition Festival

Slavic Springs Festival

A one or two-day outdoor picnic-festival that brings together Czech and Ukrainian families.

Program:

  • Performances by singing and dance ensembles from Czech Republic and Ukraine
  • Concerts by soloists and musical bands
  • Children's performances
  • Craft and art workshops
  • Art exhibition and market
  • Shared barbecue and tasting of traditional dishes
  • Emphasis on sustainable approach and waste sorting

Location: Božkov Island or park behind Plzeň Plaza

Expected attendance: 200–400 people

June 2026 Traditional Celebration

Ivan Kupala

Traditional celebration of the summer solstice by the water.

Program:

  • Songs and folk dances around the fire
  • Wreath weaving and floating on water
  • Demonstrations of folk games
  • Shared feast

Location: River, park or outdoor space by water

August 2026 2nd Edition Festival

Day of Ukrainian Culture

A festive cultural day in the center of Pilsen showcasing traditional and contemporary Ukrainian culture.

Program:

  • Concert of Ukrainian singers, poets and dancers
  • Poetry recitation
  • Musical quiz
  • Art and dance workshops for children
  • Art exhibition and market
  • Tasting of Ukrainian cuisine

Location: Republic Square, waterfront or other public space

Expected attendance: 150–250 people

Thank You Czech Republic – 2nd Edition
September 2026 2nd Edition Festival

Thank You Czech Republic

A musical-dance event with Czech-Ukrainian program that symbolically expresses gratitude to the host country.

Program:

  • Performances by Czech and Ukrainian ensembles (folk dance, folklore, modern music)
  • Concerts by soloists
  • Art workshops and creative classes
  • Tasting of Czech and Ukrainian dishes
  • Shared singing and closing dance

Location: Waterfront, Republic Square

Expected attendance: 200+ people

Traditional Ukrainian evening gathering.

Program:

  • Songs and games
  • Tasting of homemade dishes
  • Sharing of customs and stories
  • Informal gathering of generations

Ukrainian Christmas
December 2026 Christmas Celebration

Ukrainian Christmas

A cultural celebration concluding the entire cycle.

Program:

  • Concert of Czech and Ukrainian carols
  • Craft workshops (Christmas decorations, traditional ornaments)
  • Presentation of Ukrainian Christmas customs
  • Shared Christmas Eve table
  • Folklore program and games for children

Location: Cultural hall, community center

Expected attendance: 50–150 people
